The Abdulla Ahmed NASS Group

Abdulla Ahmed Nass Group of Companies started as a construction company, and it has remained the mainstay of all the group businesses.

“The backbone of the company is construction,” said Fawzi Nass, Director of Abdulla Ahmed Nass Group. “Nass has moved into manufacturing during the last 8-10 years.”

Founded in 1963, the building and civil engineering company quickly established itself in the industry. Today, with more than thirty companies and 3,000 staff, the Group operates throughout the Gulf region and has extensive worldwide interests.

As one of the most experienced construction companies in the area, A.A. Nass Contracting Company now has two main subsidiaries – Nass Industrial Services for Mechanical Works and B.K. Nass for Electrical Installations and Instrumentation Works. These companies are able to provide clients with a unique blend of experience and know-how that cover many aspects of construction, which range from civil works and mechanical erection to electrical installation, instrumentation works and plant commissioning.

As a result, the Group is self sufficient in finance, construction management, manpower and equipment; this places it in a unique position to develop complete turnkey installations, with single source responsibility over a wide range of construction disciplines.

Much of the company’s workload comes from the Government and private sectors in the fields of construction of civil engineering projects, buildings, housing, offices, industrial plants, marine works, main drainage pipelines, water and sewerage pipelines, pumping station and power cable net works.

Nass Sand Processing Plant represents the A.A. Nass Group’s philosophy of diversification aimed at proving a comprehensive service to the country’s construction industry.

The company was the first sand plant in Bahrain, and is also the larger supplier, with the biggest operation focusing on the reclamation of lands.

Nass Scafform, was launched in 1990 as a joint venture scaffolding company between A.A. Nass and Scafform International of UAE, undertakes all varieties of scaffolding work in Bahrain. It is the first scaffolding company in Bahrain to gain ISO 9002 quality accreditation and one of the few scaffolding companies in the GCC to have received such international recognition.

“This proves that Bahrain market is viable market for investors, catering for the Middle East markets a well as Bahrain,” said Fawzi Nass.

Today, Nass Scafform provides scaffolding access and formwork services for major industrial companies and leading international contractors throughout the Gulf.

Nass Industrial Service specialized in the fabrication and construction of heavy steel products including structures, piping and storage tanks.

Other companies include Gulf Acid Industries, which started the production of sulphuric acid in 1985 in Bahrain with the A.A. Nass Group. Another innovation is the Ice Plant, which was built to fill a need for Bahrain’s large fishing industry and some industrial projects. The plant can daily produces 60 tons of in 25-kilogram blocks.

Perhaps most surprising out of Nass’s many commercial operations is the Artland Galerie, which was established in 1978 as a division of A.A. Nass Group. Artland Galerie has a full-fledged wood working factory, staffed by top-notch designers and engineers that create furniture and fixture with Arabic, European, Oriental and Asian designs.

The only way forward is manufacturing says, Fawzi Nass, director of Abdulla Ahmed Fawzi believes strongly in promoting Bahrain as a manufacturing base for Middle East markets. A manufacturing base in Bahrain could be beneficiary to both countries utilizing the little resources available,” he said.

They already distribute a wide range of US products. He would like to see this wide range of products distributed in the Middle East and to be manufactured in Bahrain. Using the know how of US expertise which would be more cost effective and saves money in terms of shipping from US to Bahrain.

He said the market and volume is available. The beauty of it they can utilize resources such as land, which is subsidized by government. Manpower is readily available at much lower cost than first world countries so is energy power gas and oil. The only thing lacking in Bahrain is expertise and know how, everything else is available and ready to be utilized in Bahrain.

Nass group is already working with many US contracting companies as subcontractors, whether in Bahrain Saudi or Kuwait. E.g. Braden, Bactel, Foster Wheeler (actual names can be taken from the brochures included)

He hopes to see more joint US Bahrain ventures.

The manufacturing businss is the only key to the development of the economy. We need to encourage foreign companies to come and set up in Bahrain, which will be beneficiary to all end users and consumers.
