The Emblem and National Flag of Malta
The Emblem of Malta consists of a shield showing a heraldic representation of the national flag of Malta. Above the shield is a mural crown in gold with a sally port and eight turrets of which five are visible, which represent the fortifications of Malta and denote a city state. Around the shield is a wreath of two branches, one an olive tree and the other a palm, the symbols of peace associated with Malta. The branches are tied at the base with a white ribbon upon which is written the Republic of Malta.
The National Flag of Malta
The flag has two equal vertical stripes of red and white. The George Cross, which was awarded to Malta by His Majesty King George VI on April 15, 1942, is edged in red and in the uppermost corner of the white stripe.
