Day tripping
A day trip to Sicily is a great way to add more fun to your trip to Malta. Sicily is only 90 minutes away by a comfortable catamaran. Travelers can jump on the 7 a.m. Virtu Ferry and by 9 be in a rental car or coach bus seeing the Sicilian countryside. Since the ferry back doesn’t leave until 9:30 p.m., you have all day to drive around this beautiful island and eat and shop to your heart’s content.
Although a coach tour is the easiest way to see the sites, renting a car and going where you want is more fun. Our small car took us all from the port the friendly port town of Pozzallo via Mount Etna to the black sand beaches of Catania and up to the way to the elegant resort town of Taormina (call 0932-797064 or 0338-530157 for car rental) where we spent the day drinking frothy cappuccinos, eating creamy pasta, shopping for ties and admiring the lush scenery.
